Eric Lefkofsky Improves Cancer Patients’ Lives with Tempus

Eric Lefkofsky is one of the top 10 health techies in Chicago, and lately, he’s seeking to continue to improve the lives of cancer patients everywhere with his new company, Tempus. He co-founded the Chicago-based organization in 2015, and since then he has been developing the startup, with the aim of digitizing data about cancer patients in order to provide them with personalized healthcare. The organization has already hit unicorn funding status.

The aim of Tempus is to collect a large amount of data relating to cancer patients and to make that data accessible to physicians and other specialists so that they can better treat the individuals who are suffering. The firm hopes includes DNA and RNA sequencing in its services in order to learn the most information possible about the people they are helping. A large bank of data enables physicians to find out what works and what doesn’t, and especially for individual patients, this is a key step.

Eric Lefkofsky is one of the most influential entrepreneurs in Chicago. He co-founded Lightbank, a venture fund that has helped develop more than 70 companies in the United States, and co-founded as well as currently being chairman of Groupon. He also co-founded Uptake Technologies, a platform dedicated to predictive analytics, Mediaocean, Echo Global Logistics, and InnerWorkings, which provides brand delivery to many different types of corporations. In addition to his work helping cancer patients and their loved ones at Tempus, he is a philanthropist, having co-founded the Lefkofsky Family Foundation in 2006 with his wife, Elizabeth Kramer, and joined the Giving Pledge with her in 2013. He is an adjunct professor at the University of Chicago, and a trustee at many reputable organizations, such as The Art Institute of Chicago, The Museum of Science and Industry and World Business Chicago, and Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. He is Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre Company and has written a book titled Accelerated Disruption. He studied undergraduate at the University of Michigan from 1987 to 1991 and earned a JD from their Law School in 1994.
